Notes
- Abstract:
- This poem is another version of the one contained in MS 380741. It is shorter than the poem of MS 380741, and unlike that poem it contains two lines referring to a ship, ‘jahazi.’ These occur near the poem’s end, when the young woman’s mOther speaks of her daughter’s ruin. Perhaps these lines were interpolated by informants in an attempt to make ‘Makame na Midhe’ seem thematically aligned to the fishers’ songs, kimai, that precede it; or perhaps they may be differently explained. The poem’s scribe and collector, in any case, suggests that ‘Makame na Midhe,’ like the poem that follows it, is essentially unrelated to the kimai of MS 380059a. ( en )
