Abstract:
This section contains the correspondence between Hussain bin Khamis and Rev. Taylor, and one letter between Mwalimu Sikujua and Rev. Taylor. Mwalimu Sikujua was Taylor’s main informant, and he provided the missionary with many Swahili manuscripts. Most probably Hichens acquired the letter through Alice Werner. The letters are dated 1885 (1 letter) and 1887 (14 letters) and are concerned mainly with personal matters, and not with Swahili manuscripts. They are all handwrittn in Arabic script. Hussain bin Khamis was a wealthy landowner from Mombasa who befriended the missionaries, and particularly Rev. Taylor. The letters enclosed here concern the purchase of land in Mombasa. ( en )
