Notes
- Abstract:
- This manuscript contains the Utendi wa Aisha written in Arabic script. The same poem can be found in MS 380532 (Knappert collection) with extensive description of the content of the story. This is the original manuscript in Arabic script used by Knappert in his transliteration into Roman script. The two versions are therefore the same however during the process of transliteration some errors have occurred that are not too relevant. One typical error is that some words are rendered differently while implying the same meaning. Or, to report one example, in verse 7 of Knappert’s version, it is said that Hadija the first wife of the Prophet gave birth to ‘a child’ and afterwards she died, but in Allen’s version that child is actually mentioned as being Fatuma.
