Notes

Abstract:
This section contains material relating to theories of language teaching, and educational policy. The first envelope contains specific material about Swahili language teaching by the East African Swahili Committee, and the introduction of Swahili as a subject for the BA degree. In the second envelope, SL38, there are the proceedings of a conference about the place of Anthropology in General Education held at the London School of Economics in December 1964. The conference was organised by the Association of Social Anthropologists of Great Britain and the Commonwealth. SL 39 contains a Report to the faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, most probably of Makerere University however this is not stated, written by Beryl Steel, resident tutor of the Institute of adult education. The report discuss the introduction of a supplementary course for first year students on effective study methods that would help students in organizing material, thinking objectively, and arguing logically. The fourth envelopes of this section contains a paper by Robert Cooper entitled ‘The ability of dead and hearing children to apply morphological rules’ published in the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, March 1967, Vol. 10, No. 1. The last envelope contains similar material to the previous one. It contains the Final Report to the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare about the Development of a test of deaf children’s linguistic competence, dated April 1967, by Robert Cooper and Jonathan Kaye. The report summarizes the results of a preliminary attempt to develop techniques for the measurement of deaf children’s linguistic competence. ( en )
