Abstract:
In this final section of box 2 of Whiteley collection, there are a five envelopes containing anthropological material. The first envelope (SL14) contains a paper presented by Hitoshi Ueda at a Research Seminar at the University of Nairobi entitled ‘Witchcraft and Sorcery in Kitui of Kamba Tribe’. The second envelope (SL15) contains another paper presented at the University of Nairobi in 1971 entitled ‘The uses of Body Movements in Social interactions’ by Chet A Creider. Both papers drawn on the findings collected during the authors’ fieldwork, in Kenya. SL 16 contains the outline for a course in Anthropology, with the general topics to be discussed weekly, with some references. In the third envelope (SL17) there are information about Rites of Passage among the Swahili in Mafia islands, offshore of Tanzania. The author is not mentioned. The last envelopes (SL18) contains a copy of the Introduction written by Whiteley for the book ‘Language use and Social change: problem of multilingualism with special reference to East Africa’ that he edited with Daryll Forde, in 1971.
