Abstract:
In this section there are three research reports (SL/11, SL/12, SL/13). The first is by R Blackburn who was Visiting Research Associates at the Institute for Development Studies, University College, Nairobi, in 1970. His paper is about his preliminary socio-linguistics and ethnographic research among the Ogiek people of Kenya. The second report is by Jurg Mahner who was also a Visiting Research Associates at the Institute for Development Studies, University College, Nairobi, in 1970. His report discusses the social development of the Tigania people, a sub-group of the Meru group, with mnay ethnographic and anthropological information. The final report is by Richard Lowenthal who was a reserch associate at the Institute of African Studies, University of Nairobi, in 1971 and wrote this paper for a research seminar. He discusses the structural dynamics of the Tharaka Age-organization and a theoretical approach for the stuyd of social change. The (A)Tharaka people are also a sub-group of the Meru people. However Lowenthal argues that the Tharaka could rather belong to the Embu, or even Mbeere people, rather than to the Meru group. ( en )
