520 3    |a In this section there are four papers relating to Swahili language development. The first paper, held in S/59, contains the Minutes of the 23rd Annual General Meeting of the East African Swahili Committee held at the University College of East Africa, Makerere College, in 1959. A copy of the Committee’s budget is also included, as well as a letter by Aidan Southall to Whitley complaining that a specific Swahili degree was not included in the new academic year at Makerere College. S/60 contains the minutes of the Sub-Committee on Swahili of the Language Committee, African Education program, Washington D.C. This report discusses the introduction of advance courses in African languages for the US Foreign Service department. The booklet of materials proposed for Swahili is contained in S/53. S/61 contains a short report by the Wizara ya Elimu ya Taifa (Ministry of Education) discussing Swahili exam papers; it also contains a report by Shabaan Robert entitled ‘Teacher’s Supplement to Wasifu wa Siti binti Saad’ that gives more information on the life of the famous singer Siti binti Saad that should become part of the Swahili curriculum. Finally, S/62 contains a paper by Bernd Heine entitled ‘On the distribution of Swahili in western Kenya’.
