520 3    |a This section contains first information about the history and genealogy of the Bajuni people. The information was most probably given orally to Whiteley who then transcribed it. The main point of the unnamed informant is that the Bajuni are originally an Arab group who migrated long time ago to the northern part of the Coast. This cannot be certain and it seems to be another example of claiming ancestry in the Middle East, a concern of many coastal people since the 19th century. The second item is an article by J W T Allen entitled ‘The collection of Swahili literature and its relation to oral tradition and history. And finally, in S/51 there is the complete manuscript for the book ‘Swahili. The Rise of a National language’ by Whiteley, dedicated to the memories of H E Lambert and Shabaan Robert.
