Notes
- Abstract:
- This section contains two modern Swahili plays from Tanzania, written in Standard Swahili, entitled ‘Upendeleo uliosababisha vifo’ by W Sindano and ‘No. 5 Sijambo street’ by unidentified author. Both plays are undated. The first play tells about an imaginary clan called Ukoo wa Kimangi (Kimangi clan) where two brOthers argue over their inheritance. The first son of the head of the clan is called Mbiliki and is the main character of the play. Mbiliki is worried about his inheritance because his father, Mangi, wants to give the inheritance to Mbiliki’s younger brOther, Mbeleko. The second play is an extremely long play divided into 14 chapters, written in Standard Swahili by unknown author. Because of the length of the play the cataloguers did not read it all. In short, it is a ironic play set in Dar es Salaam. ( en )
