- Abstract:
- In this section of the correspondence file there are a few letters from various people. The first envelope (P5) contains two letters from R. Gray regarding land issues in Zanzibar, written from the High court. The legislation mentioned in the letter is called ‘The Deed Resettlement Act’, 1934, and it was designed for the protection of Arab and African landowners. The second envelope (P6) contains three letters from the poet Haji Chum, from Zanzibar. In one of the letters he discusses the ‘Utendi wa Vita vya Uhud’. The third envelope (P7) contains one letter from the famous poet Shabaan Robert, and two from Mohammed Said Abdalla, both writing from Zanzibar, and discussing general issues related to Swahili literature. The fourth envelope (P8) contains two letters from a teacher from Litui, Kenya, thanking Whiteley for having sent the new Kamba Grammar. He also informs Whiteley of a planned General strike demanded by teachers. The last envelope (P9) contains miscellaneous letters. ( en )
