- Abstract:
- This MS contains approximately 700 cards with Swahili words, presented in many instances with their derivatives or extensions in the case of Verbal roots. As noted for a similar kind of manuscript, i.e. MS 53509 (Hichens collection), this is also a very difficult item to catalogue because of the nature of the material. The cards are not placed in alphabetical order, and it is however impossible to put them in a consistent order. Therefore, only careful perusal can bring light to the content of the many cards. As noted above, most cards provide a Swahili word with translation and exemplification through sentences. ( en )
