|a This is the first part (A) of MS 54343 that contains a collection of short stories and proverbs with metaphorical meaning, as well as the narration of the chronicle of Mombasa at page 134. Many of the stories contained here can be found in the Hichens collection (MS 193290), in typed version. The stories are listed by means of the metaphors that they embody. For instance, the first is a story about a Sultan and his ministers and it is entitled ‘Al-Hadhar Qabla Al-Athar’ meaning ‘Be careful of the consequences’, and it narrates about a Sultan who was very harsh and too sudden in giving punishment to his subjects. His ministers (waziri) advice him to consul them before taking a punitive decision because in many cases ‘even what you see cannot be true’ (the wisdom of the story). Further titles are as follows: - Learning the best thing (p.10) - Union is strength (p.16) - Honesty (p.24) - A fool- Anecdote of Hija (p.62) - Wisdom is found with the age (p.82) And lastly, there is an extract from ‘Chozi (kidosho) na Mbuyu’. |
