Notes
- Abstract:
- The letters collated by W Hichens into the present three pages are from various people who befriended or worked for Taylor. For instance, there are two letters from Mwalimu Sikujua one of Taylor’s two Swahili teachers and main informants. Indeed, in one letter Sikujua informs Taylor that he had collected some poems of Muyaka. The content of the correspondence varies from personal communication discussing problems related to the purchase of coconut trees by the CMS parish at Rabai (Mwidani bin Mwidadi), to a request for money lending, or a request for help in the releasing of material at Rabai custom house. The reading is quite smooth and clear, although as with most material in Arabic script the reader will have to adjust a direct transliteration to correspond to the Swahili context. ( en )
