Notes

Abstract:
In this section, there are first two pages of handwritten grammatical notes on the Swahili language; these are followed by a few blank pages, and then there is an outline for a Swahili grammar, in Swahili, divided into chapters. However, the chapters are not only providing grammatical information, but discuss various aspects of Swahili culture and religious issues concerning, for instance, respect towards parents, the need to praise God, the importance of the sun as a source of life, et al., as well as historical information about missionary work in East Africa, 1844-1886 (Ch. 29). This section concludes with grammatical material on Swahili Verb tenses, written both in Arabic and Roman scripts. ( en )
