|a The poem contained here provides a history of the island of Siu at the time of the Omani Sultan of Zanzibar’s attack on the island and his victory over the ruler of Siu, Bwana Mataka. Once the war was over the Sultan made an agreement with Bwana Mataka and invited him to Zanzibar. However, this was a trick. Bwana Mataka was arrested and sent to Mombasa in prison. The poet blames the people of Siu. He says that they call their misfortune upon themselves, and that they will always regret their defeat. This section ends with miscellaneous extracts from various religious poems that are either waadhi or poems where the author asks for God’s forgiveness and support ‘kuomba Mungu’. |
