|a The content of this typescript is essentially the same as that of 380538a, the outstanding difference being that (b) is incomplete. But the latter is not a carbon copy of the former, and some notable variations arise after verse 250. Because of erroneous stanza numbering in (b), the numbers mentioned below refer to 380538a. The verse numbered 284 in (a), for example, is in the present typescript followed by an additional verse introducing the quotation from the Qur’an that appears in both typescripts. The verses numbered 394 and 395 in (a) are inverted in (b). Also around verse 395, a section of about eight stanzas in (a) are transposed to another, later position in (b). And the verse numbered 477 in (a) is in (b) followed by two additional verses and a Qur’anic quotation. The incompleteness of (b) makes it difficult to evaluate the significance of these differences. |
