|a Biographical information: The publisher’s preface to the 1979 publication of Ras li Ghuli identifies Sheikh Mgeni bin Faqihi as an Mtumbatu who was born in Unguja. Sheikh Mgeni was a religious teacher in Mbweni, Bagamoyo, and in Bagamoyo he composed this epic, using as his source the Arabic book entitled Futuhu ‘lYamani. The source of the corrections and notes in this particular partial manuscript is unknown. |
