Notes
- Abstract:
- This manuscript contains 34 stanzas of the Epic of Ras Li Ghuli, with corrections and notes. Many notes relate to translation, referring to the rendering (in French or English) of single words; but the insight this manuscript provides into translation of the stanzas is quite limited. ( en )
- General Note:
- Biographical information: The publisher’s preface to the 1979 publication of Ras li Ghuli identifies Sheikh Mgeni bin Faqihi as an Mtumbatu who was born in Unguja. Sheikh Mgeni was a religious teacher in Mbweni, Bagamoyo, and in Bagamoyo he composed this epic, using as his source the Arabic book entitled Futuhu ‘lYamani. The source of the corrections and notes in this particular partial manuscript is unknown.
