520 3    |a This manuscript is Hichens’s notebook on various aspects of Swahili literature, poetry and history. Only the first half of the notebook is used, and the notes are not ordered and are often incomplete. The list of themes and issues discussed is as follow: The ‘Hadithi ya Abdurahmani na Sufiani’ is mentioned. Three pages discuss the role of the Angels Munkir and Nakir, as mentioned in the Koran. There is some information on the meaning of Hell as it is understood in Islam. Further material contained in the MS is more historical in nature. Hichens tries to provide a link between Bantu pre-history with that of Other civilizations like the Sumerian, Egyptian, Abyssinian, and Greek. He also provides a few peices of archaeological information on Kilwa and Zanzibar. Finally, he provides some information about the author, al-Masudi, and about the books ‘Al-Mukhtasar’ and ‘Ummal Kura’, together with some scattered historical material.
