Abstract:
The author gives information on the impact of the Italian conquest of the Lamu archipelago in 1939. He specifically looks at the economic and political implications and at the interaction between the British and Italian armies. He also mentions changes such as the introduction of a signal-station and an air-raid alarm system in Lamu town. ( en )

The Official Gazette notes the presence of A. A. M. Lawrence in an administrative position in Zanzibar in July 1934. The Gazette, in March 1936, notes his successful completion of the Standard Swahili (written part only) examination. He is also noted by the Gazette as Chairman of the Tana River and Lamu Liquor Licensing Court in Lamu in 1941; and, again as District Commissioner of Eldoret, in June 1945, and of Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzola, in October 1945.
