- This miscellaneous section contains various types of material and notes. The first page contains incomplete information on the practice of ‘gungu’ (a type of dancing). The information were given to Hichens by Muhammad B. Ahmad. The following pages contain scattered information on rhyming in Swahili, with examples from a poem; an example of a catchword compositions in the Yao language, collected by A Werner; half a page on ‘Quranic influence’; a short extract from A Werner’s book ‘Language Families of Africa’ (1925); 4 pages of various Arabic characters; information on writing materials such as ink and black sand used for writing Swahili in Arabic script; 3 pages from R Nicholson’s book ‘A literary history of the Arabs’ (1907). These extracts are followed by a final section on Persian, Arabic, and Swahili Prosody. ( en )
