Notes
- Abstract:
- This section contains miscellaneous material, some of which is unrelated to the compilation of the book on Swahili Literature. The first item is a letter from Hinawy to A Werner, in Swahili, regarding the Hadithi ya Miqdad na Mayasa. The second item contains 3 pink pages taken from the Journal Africa, entitled ‘The Development of the Swahili language’ by G.W. Broomfield, and ‘The Linguistic situation in East Africa’ by K. Roehl. These are followed by information on Latin Prosody and Laws on Metre. In Item 3 there is an extract published in the newspaper ‘Mambo Leo’ of a poem entitled ‘Twamtaka’, and two pages of bibliography. Item 3 is followed by a few pages from the Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, and an article on phonetics by P Daley. Next comes the same outline of 30 chapters for the book on the ‘History of the Swahili Literature’, as in section a. (MS 53503a). The conspectus is followed by 19 old pages, turned yellow, containing typed information on Swahili poetry in general, with examples of poems and songs. The final 8 contain extracts from the book ‘Literary History of the Arabs’. ( en )
