- Abstract:
- The first 7 pages of this section of MS 53503 contain the outline of the book on Swahili Literature that Hichens had intended to publish. He planned to divide the book into 30 chapters and to cover the history of Swahili literature in the period between 11th and 20th century. After the chapters outline, miscellaneous papers contain biographical information on some of the poets, including Muyaka (from the Taylor’s papers), Ali Koti, Seyyid Mundhar, Seyyd Mansab (notes from Hinawy) et al, and the genealogy of the most important poets. There are also a few unreadable pages written with pencil. The last 2 pages contain the acknowledgments to all those who helped Hichens in collecting the material for the book, as well as those who helped in the writing of the book. The content of this manuscript should be consulted together with Mss 53491 and 53495, as the latter are also collection of material for the publication of an anthology of Swahili Poets. ( en )
