Notes

Abstract:
This section of the MS 153489 contains a typescript copy of the part of the Peryplus of the Erythraean Sea that deals with East Africa. The Peryplus of the Erythraean Sea is a chronicle dating to c. 60 AD, which gives historical information on the population of the Coast at that time. This copy was given to W. Hichens by Alice Werner. It is not known how A Werner received the information about the chronicle. This section includes a handwritten page sent to Hichens by Werner, which is unfortunately unreadable. ( en )
