520 3    |a This portion of MS 34882 contains a waadhi, or religious admonition. Like many Other poems of its genre, this waadhi insists upon the imminence of death and includes narration of the events that will follow death. The behaviour of friends and relatives receives particular attention in this poem, which dwells on how quick they will be to forget the deceased. Like many Other authors in this genre, Amina Sayyid Amin writes that she is addressing herself, and instructing her own heart. The poem, which is elegantly written, includes admonition on such matters as the need to respect the poor and weak, and describes the loneliness of the grave and how after death one’s limbs will speak, reporting the evil deeds they committed; this latter point is contained in the Qur’an.
