- Abstract:
- This section of MS 253029 contains a collection of letters, dated 1938 and 1939, by and to Mr Hichens, regarding the publication of Al-Inkishafi. The first letter is from the Africa Department of the School of Oriental and African Studies asking Mr Hichens to publish his translation of Al-Inkishafi, with grammatical and Other notes. Then, there are various letters of correspondence between Mr Hichens and various Institutions, such as the Cambridge University Press, the International Institute of African Languages and Cultures, The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge and the Sheldon Press, all regarding the publication of Al-Inkishafi and Al-Akida. Finally, Sheldon Press agrees to publish the manuscript, and here we have the correspondence regarding the printing process. This MS also contains a set of letters between Hichens and Mbarak Ali Hinawy, Hichens main informant, regarding Other pieces of Swahili literature, for instance Al-Akida, that could be published. Mbarak Ali Hinawy suggests approaching Kenya’s publishing houses. ( en )
