520 3    |a This section of MS 205000 contains the first four parts of chapter 3 of the ‘History of Swahili Literature’ written by W. Hichens. This section begins with the Table of Content for the whole manuscript that is chapter 3 and 4, of the ‘History of Swahili Literature’. W. Hichens probably intended to publish the book, as the organisation of this manuscript suggests. At the beginning we also find a Map of Lamu Archipelago, a list of songs mentioned in the manuscript with page reference, and a Table of persons named in the Liyongo tradition. This section, of 45 pages, gives historical information, gathered by Hichens, on the life of Liyongo Fumo, and the sources available of the Liyongo tradition (mainly poems and songs narrating events in his life). Each page is followed by a page of footnotes. The historical description is intercalated with samples of Mashairi ya Liyongo.
