520 3    |a The Utenzi contained in this section was composed by Abdallah bin Mas’ud some time in the 19th century. As noted in the biographical notes drawn from Hinawy’s book, the author was rather a song writer than a poet. This utenzi lacks continuity and elegance, and the author did not have the poetic command of masters, like Muyaka or Suud bin Said. Nevertheless, this Utenzi provides a vivid account of the life of the famous historical character Muhammad bin Abdallah known as Al-Akida. The poem is of 99 verses and has been published by A M Hinawy (1950); it is presented here with an English translation. The complete manuscript of Hinawy’s book is MS 210009.
