- Abstract:
- This section contains the well known historical poem narrating of the war of conquest of the Island of Siu by Sultan Majid Said of Zanzibar and the imprisonment of Bwana Mataka the Sultan of Siu. The poem accuses the people of Siu of letting this happen and each verse ends with the line’ Hayapisi mayutoke’, meaning ‘You will regret this event for ever’. Bwana Mataka was, in fact, taken prisoner to Fort Jesus in Mombasa, and the islands of Siu went under the control of the Sultan of Zanzibar. The same poem can be found in the following Mss 47779, 41960, 47754, 279888-vol.2-MS 305, 279888-vol.4-MS 317b. ( en )
