|a The long poem in the Utendi form contained here is about the marriage between Fatuma, the daughter of the Prophet Mohammed, and Ali bin Thalib, one of the Prophet’s companions. The poem is followed by a poem of the Dua genre, in Arabic, which is a religious admonition to God. The Dua is followed by information, in Swahili, on how to pray. Finally, there is a poem entitled Utendi wa Waadhi l-fuadi (heart), of 232 verses, which tells people how to behave in accordance to Muslim values in order to reach Paradise after death. The waadhi warns people that if they do not obey the islamic pillars they could go to hell. The author is Amina binti Said Amin and the poem was written in 1232AH, 1817AD. The Waadhi is followed by another Waadhi in Arabic written by Sheikh Yusuf bin Ismail al-Nabahani. |
