|a This section of MS 279888, namely MS 305/3, contains one of the best- known songs attributed to Fumo Liyongo, the Swahili mythical hero, and it originated in oral literature. The song is in the Utumbuizo genre and narrates of the wedding of Liyongo’s sister at the court of King Daudi Mwingwari. The Gungu drum is played to call the guests to come to the wedding ceremony that is also attended by Liyongo’s brOther, Bw. Shaha and by Bwana Mwengo. The same song is found in the Hichens collection (MS 205000), a version of which was published by Knappert (1979, p. 76-78). |
