520 3    |a This section of MS 279888, namely MS 305/1, contains the same Utendi that has been catalogued in this same volume, in MS 307, and precisely the second Utendi of that section. The difference between the two versions is that this version start from the beginning and it is therefore a complete version. Overall the poem is the same. In brief, the content of the poem is about the war between Muslims, at the time of the Prophet Mohammed, and king Andharuna, the leader of the non-Muslim Arabs. For a more complete description see MS 307. The poem begins with the utterance ‘Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim’, the common opening for religious poem. The name of the author is given with a reference number 310 bin 191, which is a typical usage by Arabs scholars, where each number corresponds to a letter of the alphabet. The author writes in Arabic as well, which shows that he was highly literate. The scribe is a woman called Mwana Marabu binti Shehe Bwana Lipa [?], and we gather this information at the end of the poem where she praises God in her and her husband name. According to the Other version in the Allen collection, the author gives the date of the poem as 1075AH-1665AD, and the scribe gives the date of scribing as 1355AH-1936AD.
