Notes
- Abstract:
- This manuscript contains first a collection of short poems praising the Prophet Mohammed; some are in Arabic and some in Swahili. Many poems are incomplete and some are very faded, which makes the reading very difficult. Second, there is a collection of short poems in Swahili celebrating the death of the famous religous scholar from Lamu, Shariff Adnan. The appellative Shariff states descendency from the Prophet Mohammed. In Swahili culture is very common to celebrate the death of famous religious scholar by means of poems. Shariff Adnan became to be considered a saint by his community because of his pious devotion to Islam and his deep knowledge of religious matters. All his activities are celebrated in the collection of poems. ( en )
