520 3    |a Sally was born in Cairo, in 1985. Her mother is an engineer and her father works in tourism. She studied political science at Cairo University and then went on to complete her Master's degree in Middle East Studies at St. Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon. During the 2006 Lebanon War, Sally volunteered with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) After her studies, Sally worked for the National Council for Women. Before January 2011, Sally participated in the protests against the murder of Khaled Said. She participated in the 18-day sit-in in Tahrir Square in January-February 2011 and other protests calling for an end to military rule and against sexual violence against women protesters. After the 18 days, Sally became involved in Tahrir Monologues, a theatre group retelling stories from the revolution and co-founded Baheya Ya Masr and the online campaigning group, ‘The Uprising of Women in the Arab World’. Sally participated in demonstrations in Washington in support of the 30 June 2013 anti-Morsi protests in Egypt. After 2011, Sally worked with UN Women in Egypt and was still working there at the time of the interview.
