Abstract:
The interviewee was born in Cairo in 1965. Her father was a government employee and her mother was a housewife. The interviewee studied political science at Cairo University. She became a lecturer in political theory at Cairo University, the American University in Cairo and most recently at Asyut University in Upper Egypt. She was a coordinator for a project with the European Commission on the rights of children and public policy for 3 years. She co-founded Islam Online, a leading Islamic website discussing various religious and cultural topics, and has been active in various online media platforms during the Arab Spring. She participted in demonstrations organized by the Kefaya movement in 2005. From February 2014, She was appointed as a visiting fellow at LSE. ( en )
General Note:
Funding : Women's Activism in the Arab World (2013-2016). This project, funded by a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship, examines the significance of middle-class women's activism to the geo/politics of Arab countries, from national independence until the Arab uprisings. It was based on over 100 personal narratives of women activists of different generations from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
