Abstract:
This poster details the objective and aims of the food-for-work programme implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) after the 2015 earthquake and asks for suggestions and complaints from the beneficiaries. Through its 9 AM-6 PM, Monday-Friday toll-free phone numbers, it specifically seeks suggestons or comments in regard to the following circumstances: 1) if the grains or food under the project are not distributed to the direct beneficiaries and is instead distributed to others, 2) if the grains or food for distribution are not stored properly or if the distributed grains or food are found to be sub-standard, 3) if the food distributor refuses to give out grains or food despite participating in the project and having the necessary papers of proof, 4) if anyone demands any fees or additional work to receive grains or food as part of this project, 5) if anyone engages in abuse, physical or mental exploitation, or personal or physical relations or tries to in exchange for grains or food. The research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, included Jeevan Baniya, Bina Limbu, Prakash Chandra Subedi, and Manoj Suji, who worked in partnership with Nabin Rawal of the Central Department of Anthropology, Tribhuvan University. The photographic collection was curated by Khem Shreesh of Social Science Baha in collaboration with Emily Homolka of UBC’s School of Information, with additional support from Emily Amburgey and Jonathan Eaton of UBC’s Department of Anthropology.
