- General Note:
- Nuwakot was located at one of the two main transit routes for trade between Tibet and India and was targetted by its neighbours for its commerical significance. The founder of Nepal, Prithvi Narayan Shah, conquered Nuwakot and built this seven-storey palace, which was also used as a winter residence by the Shah rulers. It has suffered significant structural damage in the 2015 earthquake and is yet to be rebuilt amidst calls for it to be rebuilt with national resources as reports of Chinese assistance also keep appearing.
