General Note:
The Gaddi Baithak wing was built in European style abutting the Hanuman Dhoka palace complex by Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher in 1908. The balcony was used by rulers and dignitaries during the annual festival of Indra Jatra. The whole complex suffered major damage in the earthquake. The Gaddi Baithak portion has been rebuilt with funding from USAID. In the foreground are the temporary shelters four months after the earthquake.
