Notes

General Note:
Chortens (stupas) contain sacred relics and are sites of prayer and meditation in Buddhism. While chortens can be and are built anywhere near a settlement, they are usually built at the entrance to a settlement or on a path leading into the settlement. These chortens along the trekking trail to the Everest region have been extensively destroyed.
General Note:
Funded by GCRF (Global Challenges Research Fund) through AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council), Grant number AH/P003648/1, as "After the Earth's Violent Sway: the tangible and intangible legacies of a natural disaster", Dr. Michael Hutt, Principal Investigator.
