Conclusion The Nepal earthquakes of 2015 and their aftershocks exposed gaps in the state’s institutional ability and will- ingness to address catastrophe, despite the work that has been done on earthquake preparedness. The events which have unfolded in the aftermath of Spring 2015 have exacerbated the lack of trust between Nepali citizens and the state. While the government has made efforts to organize earthquake reconstruction through the National Reconstruction Authority, the success of the govern- ment’s claim to ‘build back better’ remains to be seen.
