520 3    |a Inner Museum, Eastern Prayer Hall, Cabinet 8. --- A sign over the top of the cabinet says 'Cash donations. Buddha's Relic Shrine'. A Replica tooth relic mounted on glass lotus stand, several rock-crystal reliquaries with relics on gilded stand (centre). Bottles and glass vessels with relics (left and right), a silver box with bundles of gold-leaf, piles of currency in Thai Baht, Myanmar Kyats, and American dollars (front). A label on the right of the cabinet identifies the display as donations for gilding Buddha images. It states that the relics originate from arahants (arhats) and monks who have destroyed the defilements. People respect the relics because they have good karma. Eating just fills the stomach, sleeping just rests the back. The Buddha taught about Impermanence, Suffering and Non-Self, but ordinary people mistakenly think of offerings as a way to paradise. This is a relic of the living Buddha to help with bad karma. It can come at any time so observing and respecting these relics will bring good karma and remove the bad. Cabinet dated 1319 Myanmar Era (1957). Donor credit: Nyaung Shwe Town, Kantha Quarter. Daw Shwe Meh and children. [Their] meritorious deed.
