- Abstract:
- Western Gate, Yadana Man Aung Pagoda, Nyaung Shwe Town, Shan State. --- This royal Buddhist temple was built in 1866 by the Shan ruler Sawbwa Sao Maung (1848–1926) in the southern region of Shan State. According to a trustee’s notes the small umbrella finials visible along the tops of the thick enclosure walls and around the central tiered tower are said to have been made using rifles seized in 1862 from Sao On, the chieftain of neighbouring Indein, after an incursion against the town (U San Ya, ‘Nyaung Shwe Yadana Man Aung Temple. A Brief History’ [in Myanmar], trans. Yin May Thawe, undated.) ( en )
