|a Jayaprana. Composed by: I Nengah Susila (2003). -- One of Bali's most popular stories is about an orphan. Jayaprana, who is taken by the king of North Bali and becomes his loyal servant. However, the kings desire for Jayaprana's beautiful wife, Layonsari, leads him to organise Jayaprana's murder, but when the king attempts to seduce Layonsari, she commits suicide rather than submit. -- This new version was composed by I Nengah Susila with choreography by Ni Made Pujawati for a residency in the AHRC Research Centre for Cross-Cultural Music and Dance Performance in 2003. -- The music moves through several patut (modes), each reflecting different moods in the dance. |
