General Note:
Biographical history: Karan Singh was on 9 March 1931 in Cannes, France. He is the son of the last ruler of the former princely state of Kashmir and Jammu, Maharaja Hari Singh. He was educated at the Doon School, Dehra Dun, and Sri Pratap College Srinagar (BA), and Delhi University (MA, PhD). He served successively as Sadr-i-Riyasat and Governor of Jammu and Kashmir (1965-1967). From 1967 to 1984 Karan Singh was a Indian National Congress Party member of the Lok Sabha. He later served in various Cabinet positions (Tourism and Civil Aviation, Health and Family planning, Education and Culture). He served between 1989-1990 as Indian Ambassador to the United States. He is now a member of India's Upper House of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha.
