PARTITION - additional recordings / Andrew Whitehead I ___________________________________/ CD-18 Brigadier Kuldip Chadha Hounslow West, TW4 7RB Got in tocuh via Stan Menezes and Patrie Emerson A turbanned Sikh - family from near Rawalpindi, but also had property in Srinagar. Bom c 1920, joined army in 1942, and in 1947 was a Captain in the Frontier Force Rifles. Airlifted to Srinagar in a Dakota on October 28 1947, the second day of the airlift. Advanced to Baramulla with Bogey Sen, on to Uri, and from there to Poonch. Was on other fronts in Kashmir in 1948. Spent, in all, about a year in Kashmir in 1947-8. Met at his home on 19 July 2002 - emphasised his loyalty to Sen, and that Harbaksh Singh’s assertion that Sen was a ‘funk’ for failing to advance from Uri to Domel was quite unfair because Sen wanted to head to Domel but was specifically ordered to divert to Poonch. Says damage in Baramulla largely restricted to properties on the main road - didn’t go to the convent. A little incidental information. NOT TRANSCRIBED
