- Biographical history: Tom Dykes was the eldest son of Lieutenant Colonel Tom Dykes, an officer in the British Indian Army and Biddy Dykes, an army nurse. His father and mother were killed by raiders at the Baramulla convent, Kashmir on the 27th October 1947. Following the death of his parents, Dykes lived with his aunt in Edinburgh.
