General Note:
Biographical history: Sir Ian Scott, KCMG, was born in Inverness on 6 March 1909 and was educated at Inverness Royal Academy, Queen's Royal College, Trinidad, and Balliol College, Oxford. He joined the India Civil Service in 1932. He served in Sindh, Bannu, Chitral, and Peshawar. In 1945 he was appointed Deputy Private Secretary to the Viceroy of India, Viscount Wavell. He continued in the post following the appointment of Earl Mountbatten as Viceroy. Following Independence he worked on the staff of the High Commission in Karachi. He later worked as British ambassador to Congo, Sudan and Norway in the 1960s. Scott retired from the Foreign Office in 1969. His memoirs were published in 1999. Scott died in 2002.
