oil, when the adults have broken the nation" - interviewed in his
flaT in Calcutta, 26 April 1997
5 - 'my name is ASR, I'm a Bengali author ... I'm 93 years
old'
17 - 'my little daughter was playing with a bottle of hair
oil; she broke it and I got furious ... I just sat
down and wrote a poem in which I took to task the
leaders of my country for breaking up Bengal as well
as India'
25 - 'it was complete within half an hour; I did not know
at all it wd be so famous, act it has caught the
imagination of people on both sides of the frontier
... both of Hs and Ms'
38 - [re partn] 'I was in two minds at that time ... the Brit
are leaving I for good, and if they handed over the
