Kalim Sharifi interviewed about Communist Party of India (CPI) policy towards Muslim League; involvement with Indian People's Theatre Association; attempts to promote unity through the arts; Direct Action Day/Great Calcutta Killings; views on Partition; includes short rendition of anti-British song and rendition of national unity song (with translation). General Note:
Biographical history: Kalim Sharifi was originally from Calcutta [Kolkatta]. He was jailed for his activism in the Quit India movement and in jail joined the Communist Party of India (CPI). He was an activist in the left-wing Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) in Caluctta. Sharifi was student of medicine in 1946. He left the CPI in 1948 and moved to Dhaka in 1950. He stayed in London between 1971 and 1972 to escape harassment. Sharifi later became a supporter of Awami League.
