- Biographical history: Altaf Gauhar was born in West Punjab. He worked in the Indian Financial Service. He was close to Ayub Khan. He later edited 'Dawn'. Between 1975 and 1991, Altaf Gauhar lived in London, where he founded the 'South' magazine. He returned to Islamabad, where he edited the 'Muslim'.
